1. I saw this wall painted with a patter to look like wall-paper. How do you do that? That is called FAUX FINISHING. FAUX means "FALSE" in French. It is basically applying a coat of paint to a wall, letting it dry, and then making a pattern by stamping or wiping with a sponge or rag or something to make the pattern using a different colour than the base coat. The stuff you use to make the pattern is called glaze and it's just paint mixed with a special compound to slow the drying and thin it down. What kind of pattern you get depends on the colours, the type of rag or sponge, and who is doing it. Like snowflakes, no two artists will make the same faux finish using the same materials. 2. I've heard you guys do murals. That must cost a fortune. Funny you should ask. It isn't really that expensive. It's hard to give a figure on this without knowing exactly what you want, but a free estimate is well... FREE. So get an estimate and see if it's in your budget. To get the most value though, if you really love the mural or think you might move, get it done on canvas or board. Then you CAN take it with you. 3. About this interior designer thing - isn't that a lot of money to spend just on a paint job? Well, 1) it's not a lot of money and 2) it's not just a paint job. The designer will charge you a pretty reasonable hourly fee. Our main designer works fast so you save even more. She will meet with you and look over the area to be designed. Then she'll find out a bit about you and get some idea where you're headed design-wise. The overall look and style. |
